Endangered Wildlife Art Exhibit @ The Robert Bateman Centre
Statement Endangered Species
My fascination with and affection for Australia prompted my choice of Gilbert's Potoroo – Australia's most endangered mammal . My research revealed a unique, nocturnal, truffle eating much loved tiny marsupial. I have corresponded with Gilbert's Potoroo Action Group in Western Australia and the Wildlife officer who was happy to know the plight of the Potoroo has reached Canada. In my painting I was thinking about the things surrounding the life of the Potoroo's , flora, fauna , aboriginal presences, geology -all vitally co-existing . In contrast the black square in the centre speaks metaphorically of emptiness, loss and absence ..if Gilbert's Potoroo were to become extinct.
